Puzzle 24 Solution

Let "times" be represented by an X like in mathematics.

Hence, the first phrase reads EXILE = BANISH
The second phrase reads TEXTS = BOOKS
and the last phrase will be TOX? = POISON
by adding the letters IN you get the word TOXIN which is synonymous to poison so those are the missing letters.

Answer: IN

Puzzle 23 Solution

The 7 words are:
1. peep
2. radar
3. Eve
4. solos
5. eye
6. nun
7. tenet

the common property is that they are all palindromic. Having solved the 7 words, read the first letter of each word in order and you get your answer - present.

Answer: present

Puzzle 22 Solution

Multiply the digits of the previous term to give the next term.
eg: 2 x 3 x 4 x 9 x 8 x 7 x 7 = 84672, which is the 2nd term.

Hence, the next term after 54 is 5 x 4 = 20 and the term after that is 2 x 0 = 0. Subsequent terms will then all be 0.

Answer: 0

Puzzle 21 Solution

Between each of the Zs there is a gap of 25 boxes, and the starting Z has an arrow pointed to the right. Labelling each box starting from the first Z to the next Z with alphabets (in the backward order), you find that the box just before the first Z ends nicely with A, so the next sequence of alphabets in backward order begins all the way until the last box.

Now, checking the boxes with numbers on them, you write down the letters corresponding to the numbers of a particular colour in their numerical order.

When you do that with black, you get the word INTEGRATE.
When you do that with blue, you get SEC X.
When you do that with red, you get WRT.
When you do that with green, you get X.

So you are able to obtain the question: Integrate sec X w.r.t. X. And the answer to this not too difficult integration is ln|sec x + tan x| + C, where C is a constant.

Answer: ln|sec x + tan x| + C

Puzzle 20 Solution

Puzzle 19 Solution

Travel time elapsed = (16/66) x 60
= 14 6/11 min

The hands of a clock cross at 12 o'clock and they cross 11 times in 12 hours, which is every
1 1/11 hours, which is:
1 hour 5 5/11min

We are looking at a multiple of that that would end with a 6/11 so that when the 14 6/11 min is subtracted off, it gives a full minute. This can only happen at the tenth time to hands of the hands cross, ie. 10 hours 54 6/11 min after 12:00.

Subtracting 14 6/11 min, we get the time which Jon sets off, which is 10:40

Answer: 10:40
